85th Chester County Day Tour - Northwest Quadrant
We have the Pacific Northwest, Northwest Passage, Northwest Airlines, and the Northwest Territories among others, but in our beloved Chester County and Chester County Days, we have our own Northwest Quadrant to applaud this year. The quadrants started the first time that gas prices reached the status we are currently undergoing now, and it was decided to abbreviate “The Day” tour and divide our county into four parcels using Route 100 North and South and Route 30 East and West and go around Exton Crossroads intersection.
The 2026 tour will feature some of Chester County’s most beautiful homes and restored barns, as we focus our attention on the Northwest area and connect our 85th Chester County Day with our current 250th celebration of America.
Much of the actions in the Revolutionary War efforts in Southeastern Pennsylvania can be referenced back to this area of our county and this year’s tour. George Washington was documented as being in this area to seek munitions and iron wares from the various furnaces and foundries to supply weaponry for his troops, and he even stayed at one of the furnace homes. There were four active furnaces: Hopewell, Reading, Warwick, and later Isabella Furnace. It all started with William Penn, who realized that this section contained a wealth of raw materials and ores that would be instrumental in times to come. While Washington was in the area, his friend Benjamin Franklin was visiting friends on the farms and furnaces in this area, inspiring the idea of the Franklin Stove.
While traversing the Northwest to get from spot to spot on the tour this year, one will pass by beautiful open spaces, lovely spreads of landscape, rustic and grand homes, furnaces and foundries, and eighty five years of a great house tour to benefit our Healing House on the Hill—The Chester County Hospital. Please join us for another spectacular “Day” and soak up the history which we provide in our historic Chester County for all generations past, present, and future. - Michael Pillagalli, Editor
